I’m always sharing my story about how I dropped five dress sizes with green smoothies, but today I wanted to dispel some myths about my green smoothies and weight loss because I feel like people take it completely out of context sometimes.

My name is Katherine Kyle from greenthickies.com and I invented the Green Thickie, which is a complete meal green smoothie.

After losing 56 pounds by drinking green smoothies, I now help thousands of other people to do the same, but there is a lot of information that’s missing from the title “I dropped 5 dress sizes with green smoothies”.

What’s left out is this information and these are the questions that people ask me all the time, so I’m going to answer these five questions for you right now.

 

Question #1: Did you only drink green smoothies and nothing else?

The answer is no, I did not only drink green smoothies.

I did eat other things as well as green smoothies.

I have lost weight with green smoothies three times, a significant amount of weight three times.

Once was before I had kids, and that time I was on a raw food diet and I ate fruit, salad veg, nuts, and seeds, as well as my green smoothies, so that was a very limited raw food diet that I was on then.

The second time was after I had my first baby and I put all my weight back on during my pregnancy and then I got out of healthy habits and really struggled.

That’s when I invented the Green Thickie, which is my complete meal version of the green smoothie, which solved all of my problems in terms of not being able to get any food that filled me up and I was still able to lose weight and get my energy back after having a baby.

That time I was a vegan and I ate cooked vegan meals.

I drank two green thickies a day, one for breakfast, one for lunch, and I had a cooked vegan meal in the evening.

Sometimes snacks, but most of the time I didn’t snack.

That’s how I lost weight the second time.

I didn’t have time for snacking.

My baby made sure of that.

The third time was when I quit being vegan.

I was pregnant with my second baby, piled on all the weight again.

I was suffering with health problems.

I have up drinking my green smoothies.

I couldn’t stomach them, couldn’t stomach any healthy food and my health was plummeting.

Got chronic fatigue syndrome again.

Didn’t know if it was what it was, whether it was my vegan diet.

Stopped being a vegan, started eating meat again, although I really don’t like it.

The second time, similar to the first time, I was drinking Green Thickies for breakfast and lunch, and then in the evening I was eating a meat, or because I don’t really like meat, it was usually more of an egg-based meal with lots of veggies.

That’s what I did the third time.

I’ve tried all kinds of different diets and the common denominator is my green smoothies throughout.

Generally, I would drink green smoothies throughout the whole day and just eat something different in the evening.

That was my pattern throughout those three different diets.

 

Question #2: How long did it take you to lose the five dress sizes with green smoothies?

It varied slightly every time, but it was always less than six months.

All three times it took me less than six months.

Generally, there’s a pattern to weight loss and that is the heavier you are, the faster you lose weight initially, and then when you get closer to your ideal weight, it really slows down and it’s a real struggle to get that last few pounds off, and that’s what I noticed.

All three times, within say three to four months, I had got down to a healthy weight range, I was feeling and looking slim, and I was feeling good and healthy, feeling confident in myself, and it took me another couple of months just to get back to my ideal pre-pregnancy weight again.

 

Question #3: What is the difference between green smoothies and Green Thickies?

Good question.

Green smoothies are what I would just call a snack, a healthy snack that you would have alongside a meal, because they contain just fruit and leafy greens and they don’t have many calories and they don’t fill you up for that long.

Although they are so good for your health, they are not always that filling when most people make them as a snack, but I turned them into a complete meal and that’s what the Green Thickie is.

It is a complete meal green smoothie and it has six different ingredients in it that make it a complete, balanced, healthy meal.

It’s still got the liquid, the fruit, and the leafy greens, but it’s also got some protein in the form of nuts or seeds.

It’s also got what I call a filler, a healthy filler, and I have a system of twenty different fillers that you can choose from and these are all based on real food and normal ingredients that you can buy at your local store.

This is what makes it a complete meal because it fills you up and it provides you extra calories, but nutritious calories that keep you going.

It’s just enough calories to fill you up, but not too many that it will stop you losing weight, so it’s perfectly designed for weight loss with no hunger.

The sixth ingredient is the flavour, the taste, and this is still all healthy ingredients, but this is what makes it taste amazing, like a dessert.

They are beautiful.

Question #5: What do I need to do to make sure I lose weight?

This question, it can be quite a long answer, but the short answer is that it doesn’t matter…

It does matter what you eat in terms of health, but in terms of weight loss, you still have to watch your calories.

If you eat more calories than you burn, regardless of whether or not you’re drinking green smoothies, Green Thickies, clean food, vegetables, fruit, whatever it is, if you’re eating more than you burn, you will put on weight, so you still have to be careful.

That’s why I do count the calories of all the recipes that I create so that you know that you’re definitely not going overboard with your calories because it can be quite easy to do, even with real food.

That’s what I would suggest is make sure you’re on a healthy diet, but still either count your calories…

I don’t think people should count calories forever because that is just not real life, but I do think that you should be aware of calories and that means maybe counting them for two weeks, just to make yourself aware of what your normal food, what kind of calories you’re eating normally so that you know what your portion sizes look like, so you can see by looking at them “Oh I’m just going to take a handful of this and that’s probably around about this number of calories” and you can guess.

I’ve got all kinds of systems and formulas where you can just take two cups of this and two cups of this and just throw it all in and that’s the right number of calories without having to calorie count.
