What Are The Different Types Of Smoothies?
Despite the variations in appearance, taste and nutritional content, any beverages that have been processed using a blender and involve the use of healthy ingredients are considered a smoothie.
Smoothies come in different forms such as fruit, green smoothie, a vegetable smoothie, low-calorie smoothie, meal replacement shakes, protein shakes, Green Thickies and smoothie bowls.
Fruit smoothies are blended drinks based on a medley of fruits and berries.
Green smoothies, on the other hand, include leafy greens such as kale and spinach among many others. These give the smoothie its green color, hence the name.
A vegetable smoothie, as the term suggests, is made up entirely of veggies that may include beets, cauliflower, cucumber, broccoli, radish, and celery, among many others aside from leafy greens.
A low-calorie smoothie is just a drink prepared through calorie counting the ingredients. Any low-calorie veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds, and liquids can go with this recipe.
Meal replacement shakes are the newest breeds of smoothie which capitalize on the idea of providing a healthy substitute to actual sit-down meals. They include ingredients that are filling enough to achieve an improved satiety level, which in turn contributes to a significant curbing of appetite. This is the type of smoothie that I drink on a daily basis and helped me lose 56 pounds in a few months. I call my meal replacement smoothie recipes, Green Thickies as they are thick, green, and also contain natural protein.
Protein shakes are smoothies in which the main ingredient contains a high level of proteins. They can be prepared using protein powders or by incorporating protein-rich plant foods such as beans and legumes. Fitness buffs are known to consume these shakes for muscle building.
