All The Best Smoothies For Weight Loss Contain This One Simple Ingredient...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are so many recipes floating around the internet that claim to be weight loss smoothies.

But what actually makes a recipe a weight loss smoothie?

After all, there are only 2 ways to lose weight:

  1. Restrict total daily calories to less than you burn
  2. Eat foods that allow your body to function as it should and not prevent your body from losing weight

I do have my own weight loss smoothie recipe.  (If you don’t have that you can get it here).

So does my own weight loss smoothie recipe meet the criteria?

It is definitely based on healthy ingredients that don’t prevent the body from losing weight and helps the body to eliminate weight that has been stored as toxins.

And what about the calories?

Well that actually depends on what you eat for the rest of the day.

A weight loss loss smoothie is never going to help you lose weight if for dinner you wolf down a large pizza and a big tub of ice cream!

All my smoothie recipes are based on the principle of eating 2 delicious complete meal smoothies a day which are around 400 calories, followed by a healthy dinner that is around 500-600 calories.

So yes, my weight loss smoothie does contain the right number of calories at around 400 calories.

So both boxes appear to be ticked.

So my weight loss smoothie definitely fits the criteria.

What about all the other weight loss smoothies out there, do they fit the criteria?

A lot of weight loss smoothies contain just fruit and some liquid such as water, so yes the ingredients are definitely healthy ingredients.  

The problem is most other weight loss smoothies out there have far fewer calories.  

It sounds good right?  The lower the calories in the smoothie – the more chance you have of losing weight right?

Wrong!

Unfortunately it’s not quite as simple as that.  

The problem is – when you restrict your calories too much, what actually happens is what’s supposed to happen when our bodies feel like they are being starved…

They get hungry.

And that’s not always a big deal.  Getting a bit hungry for a few hours once in a while is actually good for our bodies.   It’s certainly natural to experience hunger.  And before convenience food was invented, we certainly had to go hungry and wait until more food was found and prepared before we could eat.  

But in this day and age, we have no shortage of food.

So what actually happens is this.

We start the day by drinking our ‘weight loss’ smoothie which may be around 100-200 calories, and we are feeling so proud of ourselves.

Within an hour, we are so hungry, our belly is rumbling and we are surrounded by food.  Everywhere we turn is an ad for something delicious.  We pass shops on our way to work, or we make a quick trip into the fridge if we happen to be at home.

Sooner or later, our willpower will get the better of us and we have devoured something unhealthy that we didn’t plan to or want to eat.  Ooops!

So much for the weight loss smoothie!  Big fail.

So why are my smoothies (Green Thickies) different?
