So what does a smoothie obsessed girl make for her friends and family as gifts? I wanted something that could be wrapped up, wouldn’t go bad and would encourage healthy habits. I thought about buying blenders but a lot of my friends say they don’t have the time to assemble a smoothie.
I must admit making my smoothie can take me anywhere between 5-10 minutes for a massive batch for 3 of us. I make my smoothies the night before so they are ready for the following morning – as I get it, we are rushed off our feet in the morning. Most of us barely have time for any breakfast at all.
So what could I send my family to encourage healthy habits that they would actually use? I usually buy books but I guess a lot of them don’t have time to read them.
So enter the DIY Portable Instant Smoothie Mixes! These are pre-assembled smoothies that you just need to chuck in your blender with some liquid and hey presto… you’ve got a healthy smoothie with no recipe or thought required.

Plus these jars are also so pretty – it looks like you’ve put so much time and thought into these gifts, but actually they are really fast to make. Perfect for a busy Mum!
These smoothie mixes are also long life so you can prepare them well in advance and the ingredients will last at least a few months.
DIY Portable Instant Smoothie Mixes
I hope you enjoy these recipes. You could either just choose one mix or make them all to give someone a selection of smoothies.
And if you want to be extra organised for your own family, why not make some up to keep yourself? This is especially good if you don’t have much room in your freezer for storing pre-chopped smoothie ingredients.
They all contain freeze dried fruit so that they will stay fresh for a long time. Freeze dried fruit tastes gorgeous when blended in a smoothie. The flavour is very concentrated so you don’t need much of it and it’s still incredibly healthy.
All you do to make these smoothie mixes is grab yourself a small jar like this and fill it with the smoothie ingredients in the order listed. Then put the lid on the jar, tie a bit of string around it, and add a tag with the instructions for blending.
All of these smoothie mixes contain dried fruit as a sweetener but you could always replace the dried fruit with coconut sugar or date sugar. I just think dried fruit looks prettier. A healthy sugar is easier to blend though. Other pretty dried fruits you could use could be dried cranberries, dried apricots, or dried blueberries.
There are 5 different flavour combinations of smoothie mixes here but feel free to experiment!

Hi Katherine,I just wanted to tell you I completed the 7 day detox and I feel so great.
I have lost 6lbs, do not feel like I need more my morning coffee, the flushing of my facial skin from rosacea has dramatically reduced and I am so excited to wake up each morning and make a green thickie for breakfast!!
I am a stay at-home, homeschooling momma of 3 littles and at times so busy I would forget to feed myself!
I would go most of the day without eating and then snack on random things.
I gained 60 pounds the last 6 years during pregnancy.
I have lost 30lbs but recently plateaued and have felt so frustrated.
I’ve tried everything from paleo and keto to the point where I didn’t know what to eat or how much and felt like even eating fruit was bad for me which thankfully it’s not!
What a game changer for me. Thank you for sharing a simple but effective program.
I’m so excited to continue another week with this plan! Thankful Stephanie

Love this idea but where can one purchase all the various ingredients – including the lovely jars?

In the recipe it says 1/4 c dried raspberries and when I go to the connecting website the dried raspberries come in like a 1.3 oz pkg. How do the measurements for that work?
Deb says
Great gift idea. Hope they taste as good as they look

Per the peanut butter smoothies, do they sell the powdered peanut butter (roasted peanut flour, essentially) there in the UK? One brand here in the US is PB2, although there are a few others that I can’t remember offhand. They’ve taken almost all the fat out so that would need to be replaced nutrition-wise but it would go very nicely in your little jars. It can be reconstituted with water into a paste somewhat but not quite totally unlike peanut butter ;) but it has its uses, especially in smoothies, as it’s easy to chuck some in if you want a peanut-butter taste but don’t want to fiddle with sticky spoons. Peanut oil being a high omega-6 polyunsaturated oil, I’d rather use the powder plus coconut oil anyway.
Also, not having a high speed blender, the texture of the oats and quinoa (unless cooked very soft, I didn’t find soaking sufficient for my sorry blender) can be a bit annoyingly gritty. To combat this I used oat flour and either quinoa flour or quinoa flakes (which are sold to make a nearly-instant cooked porridge – in the US the brand is “Ancient Harvest”)… actually lately I use sprouted grain flours as I find them much easier to digest but they’re a spendy specialty product which can be nearly impossible to find except by mail order! I preferred to use half of each, I liked the flavor better. The flours would be a good way to incorporate the grains into the jars for those not blessed with super-blenders.
