There is a worrying trend going round at the moment…
The trend is to cut fruit out of your diet completely.
This has gotten completely out of hand, and in my opinion, it has stemmed from a bad case of chinese whispers.
This is what happened when people started whispering about sugar:

“Refined sugar is bad for you” turned into
“All sugar is bad for you” which turned into
“Fructose is a type of sugar” which turned into
“Fruit contains fructose” which turns into
“Fruit is bad for you”
Quite the wrong conclusion to jump to, and this information is being spread like wildfire.
There is no evidence at all that fruit is bad for you health – in fact, there is plenty of evidence of how good fruit is for you.
Check this out:
“in a study of over 70,000 female nurses aged 38-63 years who were free of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes, research showed that consumption of green leafy vegetables and fruit was associated with a lower risk of diabetes.” (Source: https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/vegetables-and-fruits/)
This is what I believe:
Refined sugar is bad for you – yes that’s true
But I don’t believe that ALL sugar is bad for you, and I certainly don’t believe fruit is bad for you.
Completely the opposite actually.
I believe there is a reason we have a sweet tooth…
Because we are designed to enjoy sweet food.
And that means sweet food that is natural and good for us, which of course is fruit.
So no, I don’t believe all sugar is bad for us. But what I do believe is
Processed foods are bad for us.
The body recognises real food when we eat it. That’s because it’s in a form that the body is designed to digest. It has fibre, sometimes it has fat, it has protein, it has carbs, natural sugars and an abundance of vitamins and minerals.
All of these elements forms a structure that the body can process and extract goodness from to make our bodies work properly.
But the opposite happens when we eat packaged, heavily processed foods – the body says ‘What’s this? This isn’t food! I don’t know what to do with this. There is certainly nothing that I can use for good health in here, and I am going to try and get it out of the body as quickly as I can”.
But the problem is, it doesn’t move through the colon very well and actually ends up blocking the colon, with still more processed food trying to get out, causing even more of a blockage.
There are so many problems with packaged, refined, processed foods.
So how do we recognise good sugars and bad sugars?
So any sugar that has been highly processed and is no longer in it’s original state is likely to be bad for the body. (table sugar, high fructose corn syrup, cane sugar)
And anything still in it’s original state is a healthy type of sweetener that you can use instead of refined sugar (fruit, maple syrup, honey, dried fruit).
I believe for good health we should be eating an abundance of fruit, not avoiding it.
I saw miracles happens when I based my diet mainly on fruit, and I’ve seen it numerous times in other people too.
I’m not saying this is the only way to eat healthy – but for someone with a sweet tooth, it’s my preferred way.
Do you have a sweet tooth?
I’m no longer fighting my sweet tooth, I’m embracing it.
I think our taste buds have been warped by too much highly processed sugary foods to the point where fruit no longer satisfies our sweet tooth.
And I am a victim of that too.
So that’s exactly why I blend up my fruit with other natural delicious ingredients to create something that tastes as good as dessert, without all the nasties that are harmful to our health.
If you are skeptical, let me ask you one thing?
Have you ever tried my method of eating?
If not, I’d love for you to give it a go – for just 1 week and let me know how you feel afterwards.
Every day I get emails from people telling me how much better they feel even though they are eating sugary fruit (shock horror) 1-2 times per day.
And if you don’t agree with me, I’d love to hear from you too.

Hi Katherine,I just wanted to tell you I completed the 7 day detox and I feel so great.
I have lost 6lbs, do not feel like I need more my morning coffee, the flushing of my facial skin from rosacea has dramatically reduced and I am so excited to wake up each morning and make a green thickie for breakfast!!
I am a stay at-home, homeschooling momma of 3 littles and at times so busy I would forget to feed myself!
I would go most of the day without eating and then snack on random things.
I gained 60 pounds the last 6 years during pregnancy.
I have lost 30lbs but recently plateaued and have felt so frustrated.
I’ve tried everything from paleo and keto to the point where I didn’t know what to eat or how much and felt like even eating fruit was bad for me which thankfully it’s not!
What a game changer for me. Thank you for sharing a simple but effective program.
I’m so excited to continue another week with this plan! Thankful Stephanie
