My life has changed dramatically since I started making a healthy body, mind and spirit a big focus of my life.
I went from being a very negative person who was so sick I could barely move and felt so angry towards other people to someone who is healthy, full of energy, with a care-free attitude where other people’s actions rarely affect me in a negative way. I now truly value and respect myself and know that I am worthy of a good life. These changes have only come about from reading books and these are the books that had the biggest impact on my health in the last 10 years.

1.How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease By Michael Gregor
This is a book that I buy for everyone for birthdays and Christmas as there is no arguing with the scientific evidence of what works. A lot of my friends and family are skeptical when it comes to health and this book really motivates people to take positive action in their lives.

You might think a book based on science would be dry and boring, but not this one. Michael Gregor is such an engaging writer, that you can get just as much enjoyment from reading this book as you could reading a novel.
I changed many things in my life as a result of reading this book, and I keep re-reading it and learning more things. It is the book that keeps on giving.

It might seem strange to have recipes books listed amongst the books that changed my life, but I truly believe that we are what we eat, and the food that we put into our bodies has a greater impact on our health, energy, weight, and our mood than anything else in our lives.
Eating a low fat, healthy plant-based diet based on an abundance of fruit and vegetables is one of the best discoveries that I ever made for my health.

I have made almost every recipe in this book numerous times and they are all delicious, filling, low fat and low calorie. Now that I know I have celiac disease, I would avoid the recipes containing gluten or substitute gluten-free ingredients where needed.
For some reason, I couldn’t find my copy of this book and after reminding myself how good the meals are, I have literally just bought a copy of this book again as I’m typing this. However, I will adapt the recipes as I always do to make them nutritionally complete.
3. The Uncook Book: The Essential Guide to a Raw Food Lifestyle
After discovering the power of veganism, I quickly transitioned to a low-fat raw food diet which had the biggest impact on my health than anything else (see my last book). When I had recovered from my health problems but still wanted to eat a raw food diet, I started trying recipes from this book as a special treat as they are higher in fat, and they are absolutely delicious.
If you want to win people over to how delicious the raw food diet can be, this is the book to use.

On the other end of the spectrum, a low-fat raw vegan diet will help your body to heal faster than anything else you could imagine, and the images of food in this book will blow you away with their beauty and entice you into trying a healing, sustainable raw food diet for weight loss and good health.
5. Plant-Based Dips n’ Dressings: Raw Vegan Gluten Free Dips, Dressings, Condiments & sauces
I am a fan of sauces and dips as I don’t like dry food and I love flavor. I would definitely have struggled to stick to a raw food diet for 10 months straight if I hadn’t have discovered this book. I can eat any salad or zucchini pasta if it is drizzled in the most moreish sauces you could ever taste. These sauces are packed with flavor and I still make recipes from this book on a regular basis.
6. Plant-Based Muscle: Our Roadmap to Peak Performance on a Plant-Based Diet
Over the last year, I really got into weight training in a big way, and this book really inspired me and showed me that it is possible to gain a lot of muscle on a plant-based diet, and it can be very easy to sustain. I loved this book for motivation as to what’s possible and suggestions for how to get there easily.
7. Thinner Leaner Stronger: The Simple Science of Building the Ultimate Female Body
Although the author of this book is about as far away from vegan as you can get, he does really know his stuff when it comes to bodybuilding for the female body. I followed the programs in this book to pack on a lot of muscle and really tone my body during my first year of serious weight training. I learned so much from this book, enough to be able to develop my own programs now and understand the science behind getting results in the gym.
8. Dying to Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True Healing
Now I’m talking about spiritual health. I’ve read a lot of spiritual books but this is one of the ones that had the biggest impact on me and how I view the world and my life. It definitely made me less fearful and very relaxed about just making the most out of this life, but not in a desperate kind of way, just in a very chilled out kind of way.
9. Being You, Changing The World
After years of getting burned out with law of attraction, goal setting, and getting disappointed when things seemed to be moving in the opposite way to what I wanted, this book really helped me take a completely new approach to moving in the direction of where I want to go. It made me feel totally relaxed about achievements in my life as I have a very positive tool in my toolbox for moving things in the right direction thanks to this book.
10. Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything One Woman’s Search for Everything
If you have watched this movie and haven’t read the book yet, you really have to read the book. The movie just didn’t do the book justice at all. This is an incredible true story about Elizabeth Gilbert’s search for meaning through travel to India and other countries. For me, the best parts of this book were set in a meditation retreat in India where Elizabeth goes through the frustration of meditation and comes out the other side with incredible experiences.
Although I’ve had a very up and down relationship with meditation, I do find it a little boring I have to say – but this book brought excitement to the practice and made me really try much harder to give it another go.
This is a book I never wanted to come to an end. It is fantastic.
11. The Mercury Diaries
In this book, Daniel Forsyth tells his rollercoaster of a health journey after having and removing his mercury (amalgam) fillings. This is one of those books that is so entertaining to read and you don’t realize you have learned so much about the subject in the process.
This book really shocked me and prompted me to get my own mercury fillings removed (safely) and to stay as far away from this kind of destructive toxins as I possibly can in the future. This book revealed one of the very probable reasons why my own health had been so bad and what to do about it.
12. Holistic Dental Care: The Complete Guide to Healthy Teeth and Gums
Following along the same lines as the book above, this book is a must-read for everyone who still has their own teeth. My teeth have been the bane of my life and I have had nothing but problems with them. I so wished I had read this book as a teenager. It would have saved a lot of my teeth and future health problems if I knew this stuff.
13. The Way of The Iceman: How The Wim Hof Method Creates Radiant Longterm Health–Using The Science and Secrets of Breath Control, Cold-Training and Commitment
If you haven’t yet discovered Wim Hoff (AKA The Iceman) you seriously have to read this book, and also look him up on Youtube too as he’s such a charismatic guy and you will find exact instructions on how to do his breathing techniques. Once you hear Wim’s story, you won’t be able to help yourself devouring everything related to Wim Hof in sight.
Wim Hof has won so many world records for putting his body to the extreme, and now has proven scientifically that we can control our autonomic nervous systems ourselves.
His breathing techniques really changed my life, and I have never come across anything as powerful as this before. It is seriously different from anything else you could ever imagine.
Wim showed me what was possible in terms of my health, healing, and mind. Crazy interesting stuff that can have a profound impact on your life.
14. Medical Medium Thyroid Healing: The Truth behind Hashimoto’s, Graves’, Insomnia, Hypothyroidism, Thyroid Nodules & Epstein-Barr
I have three of Medical Medium’s books in this list as I am a true believer in the information he shares and the power to change lives. I’ve always had a slightly underactive thyroid and unpleasant symptoms that go along with that, so I was keen to read this book. I found I was already pretty much eating the diet he recommends, so I just added in the herbs and spices and extra juices in the book and within a month I had seen a big improvement in my health.
My results are that my menstrual cycle became a lot easier and barely noticeable and lighter than it’s ever been in my life. I also had a gum infection clear up very quickly on it’s own. I am still sticking to this regime and it’s been a couple of months now. I will report if I see any more improvements in the future.
15. Medical Medium Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease
After reading this book, it made me even more determined to eat a lower-fat diet, and what the random pains in my liver were all about during times when I’d eaten higher fat diets. I learned so much from this book about why healing the liver is critical when it comes to losing weight.
16. The Circadian Code: Lose weight, supercharge your energy and sleep well every night
I am actually in the middle of this book right now but I’m blown away by how interesting it is and what a big impact the circadian code has on all aspects of our life including weight, sleep, and disease. Sticking to a healthy circadian rhythm can literally mean the difference between life and death – that’s how critical this book is.
I have been following a lot of the principals for about a month now and have noticed a big improvement in terms of my sleep quality and my levels of hunger when sticking to a diet.
This is a must-read book for everyone.
17. Born to Run: The Hidden Tribe, the Ultra-Runners, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen
This is another true story that I didn’t want to end. I got totally absorbed into this story and pictured myself as an ultra-runner. I am the least likely person in the world to be good at running, but this book totally inspired me to build up to the point where I could run for one hour every single day. And I actually enjoyed it which was a first for me. I also got totally obsessed with barefoot running and barefoot shoes after reading this book – oh and chia seeds too.
18. Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal
Wow, Medical Medium is fantastic for showing us the path to good health. If this was one of the first books I ever read on health, this would have been my favorite book in this list, but alas I already knew the diet that was best for healing and had gotten serious transformations in my health. This diet is the same diet I used, a vegan, mainly raw and low-fat diet so I swear by his advice as I know it works.
As for the reasons behind poor health, believe it or not, that’s up to you – but it makes total sense to me. You have to let your faith guide you when it comes to a book like this as it’s not science-based, but seeing as I already put his advice to the test and it completely transformed me, I’m a believer.
I no longer feel in the dark about my mystery illnesses and felt like a weight had been lifted off me after reading this. When you have mystery illnesses, the worst thing is nobody believes you. Anthony Williams believes you and has answers for you so I highly recommend this book if you are sick, or if you just want to improve your health.
19. The Tapping Solution: A Revolutionary System for Stress-Free Living
The concept of tapping totally changed my life. I actually read this book after I already learned tapping but it inspired me even more to do more tapping in my life. I spent a couple of years tapping away years of negativity and current negativity as it would come up. I totally believe that this process completely rewired my brain because now I rarely need to tap anymore. It’s like I just release negative thoughts straight away and don’t hold grudges or bad feelings for more than one day.
I used tapping for everything that was wrong with my way of thinking. I went from hating myself to loving myself, to being proud of myself and not caring at all what people think of me, to being quietly confident and secure in my own happiness. I no longer look to other people to make me happy and I really think tapping had a lot to do with this. It’s an incredible tool and I think it should be taught at school.
I also lost a lot of weight after getting rid of cravings with tapping too. I could not break my chocolate addiction until I tapped it away and now I don’t eat chocolate at all. It’s powerful stuff!
20. Speaking the Lost Languages of God: Awakening the Forgotten Wisdom of Prayer, Prophecy, and the Dead Sea Scrolls
I used to pray desperate prayers, begging prayers and often I wouldn’t believe they would be answered. After reading this book, I started praying in a totally different way with absolute conviction that the prayer has already been answered. I saw incredible answers to prayer when I started praying this way, dramatic healings and results for me, my family and my friends.
Greg Braden, the author of this book also helped me to look at religion in a totally different way and finally I felt at peace with things that I was unsure of before, I was fine just not to know the answer to everything and I felt by releasing this stress, I was totally happy with my reason for being here, and felt more in control than I’ve ever felt.
Everything by Greg Braden is fantastic, it will really open your mind – he’s also great on audiobooks too.
21. 80/10/10 Diet: Balancing Your Health, Your Weight, and Your Life One Luscious Bite at a Time
This is the single book that had the biggest impact on my life. It was there at the right place at the right time and I followed it to the letter for 6 months for complete healing from chronic fatigue syndrome and many other health problems. Sticking to a low fat, fully raw diet can be hard, especially in winter, so you have to be very determined to follow a diet like this. But if you’ve hit rock bottom with your health, then perhaps, like me you will think it’s worth it to change your way of eating so you can transform your life.
At the very least, this book will get you thinking differently about food. It was truly life-changing for me.
Here’s a funny story. I met Doug Graham this year at a fruit festival for the first time. As soon as I saw him, I literally burst into tears as all of the emotion of getting my life back just came over me. It’s not like me to cry in front of strangers so I was a bit mortified to say the least. The funny thing is, he didn’t even notice as he’d already started talking to someone else, but his wife did, and she was so lovely to me.
Despite my incredible transformation that happened as a result of a fully raw diet, I do actually have some reservations about staying on them for long periods of time.
I think raw food diets are amazing for detoxing your body and helping your body to heal itself as it gives it a rest from junk food and provides an abundance of nutrients such as vitamin C. However, sticking to a diet like this for a long time can lead to nutritional deficiencies as you have to be very very strict about eating a humongous portion of leafy greens every day, and that’s just not sustainable for most people.
That’s why I drink so many green smoothies, and have done for the last 10 years to make sure I get all my nutrients from food. But to cover my bases, I also take a multivitamin and I supplement my diet with cooked vegetables now, like mushrooms, broccoli and loads of beans.
How To Make Sure You’re Not Deficient In Nutrients On Your Diet
If you follow a vegan diet and don’t eat a lot of veggies and leafy greens, you will soon find yourself deficient. But to be honest, most people on standard diets are also deficient in nutrients and full of toxicity which is why people head towards disease and ill health at a rapid rate. So it takes a lot of focus to make sure you’re getting all of your nutrients from food.
That’s why I created my own diet plan where I make sure that I am getting a nutritionally complete diet. It still has a lot of raw food, leafy greens, smoothies etc. but also has cooked veggies, beans and pulses and other plant-based foods that are essential for a balanced diet.
I put so much time and effort into creating a nutritionally complete, low calorie and tasty diet, that people started asking me to share it. So I did.
I call my diet, The Leaf System as it is impossible to be truly healthy without leafy greens, but thankfully most of them are hidden so you can’t taste them and don’t have to chew them in the meals that I make – as nobody has time for munching on spinach like a rabbit!
